The PICU at Apple Saraswati has 10 bed capacity. It is a level III tertiary referral centre with an availability of bedside diagnostic facilities like Echocardiography, Ultrasound, video EEG. The department is supported with highly trained Consultants, Medical officers & nursing staff to take care critically ill children. It has advanced dedicated paediatric ventilators, invasive multi-para monitors, syringe pumps.The PICU is built with separate cabinet to treat children who requires vetnilatory support and other invasive treatments. The septic patients are also isolated in isolation rooms.
PICU has 03 ultramodern ventilators (Siemens, Maquet), Philips Multipara monitors, Syringe pumps and other life saving equipments.
The PICU has team of 03 fulltime Paediatric Intensivists, 04 Paediatricians and highly trained Medical Officers and nurses. At least one Intensivist and other supporting staff are always present in PICU at all shifts including night shift. This ensures an immediate attention to patients requiring emergency care at any time of day and night. The Paediatric Department has full time Super Specialist, who has expertise & National/International experience in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine,Paediatric Emergency Medicine & Allergy. His round the clock presence for all emergencies & regular availability for OPD Consultations, makes the Department a Comprehensive Child Care Centre.
PICU department caters to various patients requiring invasive and noninvasive medical management. These broadly include, meningitis, GB Syndrome, renal failure, haematological disorders, sepsis with multi-organ failure, poisoning, dengue, cerebral malaria, burns etc.
As a part of updating the knowledge of Medical officers & nurses in PICU, regular lectures by Intensivists are conducted. These lectures covers various subjects like, training in assisting invasive procedures like intubation, aseptic precautions in PICU, training in use of various advanced equipments like high ventilators, invasive monitors etc.
We have also applied for DCH course run by CPS Board. The training of these candidates will also start in near future.
